Hello there! My name is Maggie, I’m 28 years old, and I started Roaming With Purpose in March of 2017. I started RWP, because my life was starting to really change, and I wanted a place to document and share my life without using my own social media accounts. While, yes, it is about my life, it is about more so just about my travels, changes in mindset, changes in body, gear that I have, the hiking challenge I’m doing, and a place to build a community. I felt all of these things were very important to me and I wanted to put a lot of focus on them, and wanted a separate place for it. More on that later!
I have started blogs in the past, but I feel that because I was feeling so directionless in life I was having difficulty keeping consistent with my writing. That on top of feeling like I had to keep to a strict theme or topic wasn’t something I could do when I was all over the place trying to figure myself out. I had a website that I would post on every once in a while, but I wasn’t getting out of it what I was hoping to. So I stopped. I took myself offline for a bit, and re-focused. I had been planning on launching a big website which included a blog, and while I still may do that to feature more of what RWP is all about, I believe its time I start sharing some of where I’ve already been and where I’m going with you. Some of the anxiety of having to promote myself so much on social media to gain attention was starting to get to me, but I do feel ready to move beyond posting pictures on Instagram, and creating a space where I can dig deeper into some of the things I can touch on there.
The last year has been the biggest for me when it comes to self-development, putting myself out there, doing more for myself, and pushing myself forward. There are a few key people that helped with this, and I will share about them in a later post. There are also places that have made a huge impact on me. Places like The Smoky Mountains, Canyonlands in Utah, and the wide open road. I now have my favorite spaces to go to when I need an escape, and a list of places to get to as soon as possible. I am participating in the 52 Hike Challenge 2018 this year, and I am 16 hikes and 100 miles in! I’m behind the average 1-hike-a-week, but its all about pushing myself while going at my own pace, doing it my way, and sharing it with others! I will write a post on this as well. Probably many posts. I love hiking FYI.
2 months ago I quit my job at Apple. I had been there for 4 years, loved it, but was to a point where I knew it wasn’t aiding in my passions outside of work, and I knew it wasn’t where I wanted my “career” to be in the long run. I am now working as the Print Shop Coordinator at a lovely graphic design/print shop in St. Louis named The Done Dept! It has been quite the schedule adjustment, and I absolutely love every little bit of working here 🙂 It has given me the consistency in schedule and finances to feel infinitely less stressed in other aspects of my life, which has in turn created a more positive mindset all around for me. Of course there are still stresses and frustrations in life, but I am so grateful for this opportunity and life change. I am also doing some content creation for a marketing company here in St. Louis! I create Facebook/Instagram content calendars for a few of their clients each month. It has been SO NICE getting back to this.
So here’s the deal. I have a 2013 Honda CR-V named Gravity that gets me to where I want to go on these adventures of mine, and I am in love. I am going to be one of those people that cries when their trust best friend goes to car heaven. I will ugly cry. I have had her for 3 years, and just clocked 80,000 miles on my way to Moab via Denver, and when I got her she had 35,000. We’ve been a lot of places together, and the next adventure is one I’m SUPER STOKED to share with you, and hopefully get some tips and suggestions! In August I’m taking a two week trip to Oregon/Washington! I’M SO EXCITED!
I believe that is a decent intro for now. I am aiming to post once a week, maybe twice. If there is anything specific you would like for me to post about, please feel free to comment or reach out!
