First Post of 2020!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2020 is here! Well, has been here for a couple weeks now, but still! Happy New Year! I hope you are getting this year started off with a bang, and are keeping up with any resolutions you may have made for yourself or goals you set for the year 🙂

I’ve found myself working on my goals for the year, while also feeling like I’m not accomplishing much. I was out of town for a week visiting family and Disney, and am a couple days into whatever cold bug is going around this year. I’m not working out how I’d like to, I’m not outside as much (at all) as I want to be, and I’m getting frustrated because its 16 days into the year, and I don’t see progress in my goals. I know its ONLY been 16 days and I shouldn’t beat myself up, but I was hoping to hit the ground running. In listening to my body I am understanding that I must see this as more of a marathon than a sprint.

I’m working on building up my freelance portfolio once again. My calendar is opening up to those looking for photography or content for pretty much anything, but most of my work is geared towards social media and blogs 🙂 If anyone looking for photo work is in the greater St. Louis area I’m happy to talk about working together, and if anyone is looking for some help with social media, website, or blog content I’m here! I am putting together pricing and packaging that I will include on its own page on the site. Please let me know if you have any questions! Side note – also working on brand partnerships! AKA pairing up with other brands (outdoor gear, craft supplies, etc) to do great things! I’ve worked with brands before, and while I’m SO HAPPY they happened, and I made some friends, its always been in exchange for free/discounted products they offer. I am extremely grateful, and hope to continue partnerships like these, but I do also want to keep growing it.

Also, I have decided on the craft I want to learn this year! I’M GOING TO MAKE A QUILT! I don’t remember much about sewing from my Grandma, and while I love cross stitching, there isn’t any crossover (that I know of). I already have a great idea for a quilt, but I have a feeling its much more advanced than I’m anticipating, and I might be getting myself in over my head. BUT! I do know people who quilt, and mom has a sewing machine hidden somewhere that she said I could have to get started. I’m not opposed to becoming a master quilter, and selling them for lots and lots of money 😉 It’ll be a great thing to work on during the cold months when I’m stuck inside, and learning a new skill is never a bad thing. I’m thinking this weekend I’ll start exploring fabric stores, and continue my Pinterest board of tips, tricks, and inspiration. I love me some Pinterest!

Along with this, though, is my determination to spend more time outside. I need to get over being sweaty or a little chilly, and just go! In 2018 I was out there just about every week – no matter the weather! I want to get back to that Maggie. Since I’ve already used half of my PTO for the year, I have to get creative with how I use the rest of my time this year. I have a National Parks Pass, and want to get to some parks I haven’t been to before! I’m thinking tacking days off onto long weekends so I’m not missing so much work. OR! Ideally, my freelance work will build up enough to balance taking a day or two unpaid from work if I have to. Life isn’t all about the 8-5 desk job, and I don’t want to get caught up in that, so I have to keep working on my dreams outside of the daily grind.

I’m ranting! The holidays were great, Florida was amazing, but I have to say I’m ready to be back in my routine. My mindset is positive, my body is strong, and I’m ready. Also, I’ve already listened to three audiobooks (Peter Pan, The Hobbit, Yes Please by Amy Poelher), and read one (The Haunting of Hill House). I’m on a roll! I’m going to be updating the page about books – I would LOVE some recommendations to read/listen to this year! My current goal is to average one a week, but more is always welcome 🙂

  1. That’s why I’m not a fan of resolutions – life can get in the way and you start beating yourself up twice as hard.
    Everything in due time.
But it’s good to see you’re motivated.
    Best of luck!
